weird blinker problem update

Post by 2011p7b » February 1st, 2019, 10:01 pm

still trying to sort out this mystery with this 2011 CVPI . a little more detailed info this time with the light problem:

normal:
hi-beams
low beams
left tail light
right tail light
3 hazards (the right rear which does not light)

fast rate:
right front blinker

not working:
interior map light
interior dome light
right rear blinker
right rear hazard

indicates normal rate on cluster:
left blinker
hazard (even though the right rear doesn't light!)

indicates fast rate on cluster:
right blinker

Like I said before, the hazards won't fast-blink. That's only for turn signals. Your problem is still probably the MFS (unless you somehow ruled that out).

but the hazards were blinking fast until I changed a dead bulb in the left (!)
i wish that would have solved everything but
i think the MFS must have some kind of problem
(forgot to add, it doesn't turn off on its own, i have to push the stick back up)
but -- how would the MFS affect the brake light on that side not working?

what am i missing that says this cant be the LCM?

The power for the brake lights runs thru the MFS. That is how it shuts the brake light off so whatever side you are signalling can blink. A burned up contact in the MFS can and moset certainly will cause your brake lights and turn signals not to work on one side or the other (or both).

As strange as it sounds, power to the brake lights runs through the MFS, and never even touches the LCM. The MFS is "normally closed" regarding the brake lights; triggering the hazards or turn signals "overrides" the power to brakes.

I only have wiring for 2007, but AFAIK nothing really changed lights-wise so they might be helpful. They'll be up here until...whenever.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's a website you can register at to get wiring diagrams free, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is.

not working:
right rear blinker
But the bulb works right? Both high and low?

If so then I agree that the MFS is likely the problem. Sometimes playing with the hazard button will cause or fix a fast blink for a while.

going to get the MFS but still wonder what the odds are that it will be one of the plugs instead of the unit itself. :D

After you disassemble a few ford switch assemblies you will be amazed that it doesn't happen more frequently.

Your center high brake light is out? That one doesn't even touch the MFS, much less the LCM. I'd start chasing a wiring issue/ bad ground. I forget if you mentioned it in your older thread, but do all your rear brake lights all work properly (except the center high one), or is it just the running lights/tail lights that are working fine?

Metroview Support got back to me within 5 minutes of sending them an email. They supplied a link to a 450MB updater, which solved this problem.

Many thanks to Jordan at Metroview Support
